Current Meditations – and the Meaning of OM
These are the meditation practices we are currently doing together at Shanti Sadan.
There are two versions:
– a recording of the full session with an introduction and guidance on each practice. It is warmly recommend to watch this one at least once in order to benefit most.
This includes a talk on the meaning of OM.
– a shortened version with the practices which could be followed repeatedly as a way of doing our own regular meditation.
This is the full session. Watching this at least once will help us gain most from the practices
This includes an introduction on names of higher truth and in particular OM.
Audio only format:
This is the edited version with just the practices (20 minutes). A good way of doing daily meditation would be to simply follow this recording.

Summary of the Practices
1. Inner preparation
We prepare by coming to the meditation with respect and calmness, feeling the presence of the Reality beyond thoughts, within and around us. [About one minute]
2. Breathing practice
Breathe consciously, deeply, evenly, making the in and out breath the same length: if possible breathe through the nose.
Then, as you breathe in, hear inwardly the sound ‘O’, and on the out-breath, hear the sound ‘M’.
Relax deeply by focusing your attention on the sound ‘O’ as you breathe in fully; let go of all tension hearing the ‘M’ as you breathe out completely.
Look at the visual form of OM. Don’t strain in any way, just look at OM, as you would look at a picture. If the mind wanders bring it back to the form of OM. [One minute]
Now, close your eyes and see OM inwardly as if drawn in light. Keep your attention on the form of OM, in light. [Five minutes]
4. Meditation on a text
REVEALING ALL, SELF-LUMINOUS, ETERNAL,
IS THE LIGHT OF PURE CONSCIOUSNESS.
THAT LIGHT AM I.
Repeat the text to yourself a few times until you have the main idea in focus, then try to keep your attention on that.
If the mind wanders, when you become aware of this, calmly go back to the text and its meaning.
5. Closing offering
Extend thoughts of unconditional goodwill to all. [One minute]
